Did anyone watch the Oscars last night? I must admit, I don’t really watch shows with commercial breaks, so I just watched bits and bobs of the Red Carpet, where my daughter and I were exchanging texts about everything, good, bad and ugly. 🙂 I’m sure glad I watched the beginning though. What about Justin Timberlake’s opening and his grand entrance? Gee, that guy can strut his stuff can’t he? An amazing dancer and singer, he had everyone in the aisle shaking, slinking and clapping to the music. Such a stunning performance! What a gaffe later on though, with the Best Picture Award? I mean seriously how could a mistake like that occur? But we aren’t going to dwell on that, but onto other events like baking this wonderful Chocolate Loaf Cake.
In keeping with the heart healthy theme for the month of February, here is another example of what I serve on the dinner table at least once or twice a week. An all vegetarian meal incorporating Indian spices and flavors. We enjoy all types of cuisines from around the world, but I’ll have to say we’re both partial to Indian cuisine. I try to add fish to our weekly menu too. There’s nothing quite like a fresh catch grilled, pan fried or barbecued.
I don’t want to jinx it, but this winter has been relatively mild. I’ve yet to haul out my heavy winter coat for those frigid snowy days. Why? Well, there’s hardly been any snow to write home about and the temperatures haven’t dipped as low as they have in years past. This is February for crying out loud, and we’ve flirted with temperatures in the high 60’s- 70 degrees F (20-21 degrees C) for several days. I could easily live with winters like these. As a matter of fact I haven’t been whining to my husband as much as I have in the past about escaping to a tropical island.
So it must seem a bit hypocritical that I post pictures of this luscious dessert after preaching about heart healthy foods last week don’t you think? Yes, for the most part we still concentrate on keeping our tickers in check, but every so often these indulgences take over and there’s no stopping me. In my defense though I’ll have to say that some of these calorie laden desserts mostly surface in my kitchen when I am entertaining or in this case, we were invited to dinner, and I offered to bring dessert.
Along with celebrating Valentine’s Day, February is also designated Heart Health month. It’s a great way to love your heart and make positive changes to improve its health. Never forget that heart disease is the leading cause of death in men and women.
