Flourless chocolate torte

So it must seem a bit hypocritical that I post pictures of this luscious dessert after preaching about heart healthy foods last week don’t you think?  Yes, for the most part we still concentrate on keeping our tickers in check, but every so often these indulgences take over and there’s no stopping me.  In my defense though I’ll have to say that some of these calorie laden desserts mostly surface in my kitchen when I am entertaining or in this case, we were invited to dinner, and I offered to bring dessert.

I’ve made this dessert a few times as I like the fact that there’s no flour involved.  This torte is perfect for chocolate lovers! It is great for entertaining and deceptively easy to make.  It is also ideal for people who can’t have gluten.  Here, I’ve served it with a chocolate ganache, topped with fruit which made it over the top melt-in-your-mouth licious 🙂

Flourless Chocolate Torte

  • Servings: 8
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Print

Ingredients

  • 4 (1 ounce) squares semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.  Grease an 8-inch round cake pan and line it with parchment paper, then grease the paper again, and dust with cocoa powder.
  2. In the top of a double boiler over lightly simmering water, melt chocolate and butter.  Remove from heat and stir in the sugar, cocoa powder, eggs and vanilla.  The chocolate can also be melted in the microwave. Pour into the prepared pan.
  3. Bake in a preheated oven for 30 minutes.  Let cool in pan for 10 minutes then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.  For the ganache I heated heavy cream till it came to a boil.  I then added semi-sweet chocolate chips, a bit of butter and stirred till glossy.

Voila!  A dessert fit for a Queen!  I guess I’ll be celebrating Valentine’s Day with this sweet treat.

img_9018Well they do say dark chocolate is good for the heart right?  Decadent, delicious, divine.  Just a sliver of this torte is all you need to be in chocolate heaven.  Happy Valentine’s Day friends ❤

    1. Thanks so much Julie. It looks like everyone has chocolate on their brains this week and last 🙂 Pity I won’t be treating myself though. I’m really trying to stay on the straight and narrow for now 🙂

      1. John and I are on the straight and narrow too Loretta. To much indulging and it’s to hard to turn it back once you let it get out of hand. We will have a glass of wine and that will be our dessert. Happy Valentine’s Day to you and Bert!

    1. Thanks so much. Love how you say you play in your kitchen. That’s a nice way to think of it. Fortunately, I too love to play in my kitchen. I’m sure you’ll come up with a great vegan option 🙂

      1. Loretta I’m always playing in my kitchen! 😛 We just went away for 3 nights and the first thing I did when I got home last night was had a play in the kitchen! 😀 I couldn’t possibly think of it as a chore and all this creating and inventing… definitely playing by my book! 😛 I’ve still to have a play with this though… maybe tomorrow!

    1. Thanks so much Sonal for including this in your collection. Like I said before, your FB page is always inundated with offerings from others, so I don’t even try to nudge my way in LOL! You do a great job getting it all together 🙂

      1. Yes, thanks so much,……I did see it and I have to thank Michelle. I agree with her, sometimes the sell by date is not always indicative of how fresh the yeast is. I did however, try another recipe that I’d made before that turned out just perfect! I cant say what I did wrong with the earlier one. Maybe my water was too hot, I’m not sure. Thanks though for getting back to me. 🙂

  1. Valentine’s Day is all about chocolate. You’ve created a beautiful chocolate torte especially with all of the fresh fruit. Weight Watcher’s says everything in moderation and don’t deprive yourself of something you really enjoy eating – just once in awhile 🙂 I am not the big chocoholic as Gene was but I do enjoy a good chocolate dessert. I made a chocolate treat as well 🙂

    1. Awww Judi, can’t believe you don’t like chocolate, I wish I had that problem 🙂 Gene and I would have gotten along famously. You’re absolutely right though, everything in moderation, but I don’t think that word is in my vocabulary. 🙂 I saw your chocolate/raspberry cookies, they looked so moreish. Happy Valentine’s Day.

  2. What a cake. It looks indulgent, like a proper treat! Life is about balance, being good and sometimes just enjoy the moment! I am sure if you really like it, calories won’t count as much! 🙂
